  1. Znajdź dowód we własnej transkrypcji

Mark wyjaśnia, że był dobry w rysowaniu, a archeolodzy potrzebowali kogoś do szkiców. To właśnie dzięki tej umiejętności dostał pierwszą pracę w Egipcie.

  2. Wyprowadź odpowiedź i odrzuć mylące warianty

Zdanie jest prawdziwe: przyczyna zatrudnienia została wskazana bezpośrednio. Późniejsze studia archeologiczne nie są powodem otrzymania tej pierwszej pracy.

  3. Sprawdź zapis i własny klucz

Porównaj literę z pełnym brzmieniem własnej odpowiedzi i dowodem. Samo pojawienie się podobnego słowa w źródle nie potwierdza całej opcji. Zachowano numer zadania, punktację i własne kryteria.

    Zadanie 1.
Woman: Hello, Mark. I’d like to ask you about your work as an archaeologist. What is it like
           digging for treasure?
Man: It’s great. Archaeology is my passion. When I’m working at an archaeological site,
           I feel like Indiana Jones.
Woman: Were you interested in archaeology when you were a teenager?
Man: No. I thought I was going to be an artist because I was very good at drawing.
That’s how I got my first job working with some archaeologists in Egypt. They
           needed someone to make sketches.
Woman: Was it then that you became interested in archaeology?
Man: Well, I was keen to discover the stories behind the objects which I drew, so in 1990
I decided to study archaeology. I was really lucky because, in my second year,
a famous archaeology professor, Mark Thompson, became the head of my
department, and I learned a lot from him.
Woman: Where did you work after graduation?
Man: I went back to Egypt because it is one of the most fascinating places for any
archaeologist. But I stayed there for only a week because I got a phone call from
Professor Thompson in Greece, which had just been hit by an earthquake. He
needed urgent help with protecting some archaeological sites in the earthquake
region. So, I went and spent almost a whole year working there with him.
Woman: Fascinating! Did you ever find any valuable items while working as an
           archaeologist?
Man: Once, I found an extraordinary vase. When the sun shines on it, it seems to be
made of gold, but it’s in fact made of crystal. There’s a photo of it on the wall
           behind me.
Woman: Wow, it’s beautiful! And what are you doing nowadays?
Man: Well, I spend most of the time in my office. I work for archaeological magazines
and write articles about the latest sites in Egypt, where my younger colleagues are
working. By writing the stories about the sites, I try to bring ancient times back to
           life.

  2. Wyprowadź odpowiedź i odrzuć mylące warianty

Chodzi o dom powstały wyłącznie na potrzeby filmu. Nie jest to zachęta do odwiedzin w domu znanego reżysera; właśnie niemożność zobaczenia domku rozczarowała rozmówczynię.

    One
John, have you ever seen the film Holiday? I just loved the English cottage in which one of
the characters lives. After I watched the film the first time, I wanted to see the house in real
life. I started looking for tours which included a visit to the village where the film was made.
But I found out that the house I was keen to see doesn’t exist anymore. It had been built in
just two weeks and when the filming ended, it was taken down. I was so disappointed!
                                                                     Na podstawie: www.thisisglamorous.com

I’d like to invite you to watch our next programme. We are going to have Oscar Mendez, an
architect from Bogota, with us in the studio. Mr Mendez owns a company which uses
recycled plastic to construct houses. As far as I know, the system is very easy. First, things
like old plastic bags, bottles and toys are turned into all the different parts needed for building
a house. Then these parts are put together just like Lego. With this technology, it is possible
to build a house in just five days. You will have the chance to learn more when you join us

four guests. Why don’t you make a reservation right now? You won’t regret it!

Yesterday, I decided to leave my car at home and go to my office on foot. In one of the

    Text two
Recently, an unexpected visitor turned up at a grocery store near Lake Tahoe. A video on
the Internet from the shop’s camera shows a bear entering the store, grabbing a bag of
crisps and leaving. Another video shows a bear at the same shop two days later carrying
a small plastic cup of yogurt in its mouth.
Was this the second visit by the same bear or were these two different bears? We can’t be
sure. The story may sound funny, but in fact it should remind us that when we are camping in
bear territory, we must not leave food in places where bears can find it. Because if they start
eating human food, they may lose their natural fear of people.

    Text three
Man: Good morning. Welcome to the “World of Glasses”. Would you like to see our eye
              doctor?
Woman: No, thanks. I’m just looking for sunglasses.
Man: OK. Let me help you choose the best pair.
Woman: Oh, thanks! There are so many options to choose from.
Man: Well… obviously you want the best pair for your face. The general rule is that the
shape of your sunglasses should be the opposite of the shape of your face.
    Woman: Really?
Man: Yes. Your face is round. What you need are rectangular sunglasses which will
make your face look longer. Here, try these.
Woman: Wow, you’re right. I look great in them.
Man: And there’s a special offer on this brand. Two for the price of one.
Woman: I only need one pair… but hold on. Can I buy the second pair for my husband?
    Man: Yes, that’s no problem.
Woman: Let me show you a photo of him. I have one on my phone. Here it is!
Man: Hmmm… his face is definitely triangular. But he has a beard. So rectangular
glasses will work for him, as well. But they need to be larger than yours. Look at
              these.
Woman: I think he might like them. So, I’ll take both. I’ll surprise him when I get home.
Thanks so much for your help.

Vera Wang: a successful American fashion designer
1.
As a young girl, Vera Wang was passionate about figure skating. She competed professionally throughout her teens. Her ambition was to become a member of the USA national figure skating team and take part in the Olympics. Unfortunately, when she was 16, she failed to qualify for the Olympics. After this disappointment, Vera decided to stop skating.

2.
She began studying art history at Sara Lawrence College and spent her summers working at the Yves Saint Laurent store in her home city. One day at the store, she met a man who worked for “Vogue” – a famous fashion magazine. To her surprise, he invited her to work for the magazine as an assistant to the fashion director. Within a year, Wang was promoted and became one of the magazine’s youngest ever senior fashion editors.

3.
In 1987, Vera Wang left “Vogue” to take a job as a design director at Ralph Lauren. A short time later, she began planning her wedding. Because she was unable to find a wedding dress that satisfied her, she designed one herself. This made her realize that she had the talent and passion necessary to become a professional dress designer. In 1990, Wang quit her job at Ralph Lauren and opened her own clothing boutique with the plan to design and sell her own collections.

4.
At first, her shop offered clothes only from well-known designers. Then, she gradually started adding her own designs. She first received international attention during the 1994 Winter Olympics. She had designed a costume that figure skater Nancy Kerrigan wore while skating. Soon, celebrities from many countries were wearing her dresses at various events and her designs were a popular subject of discussion on top TV shows.

  1. Odczytaj własny fragment i kontekst

Vera nie znajduje satysfakcjonującej sukni ślubnej, więc projektuje własną. To doświadczenie pomaga jej odkryć predyspozycje i otworzyć butik.

  2. Wyprowadź odpowiedź i odrzuć mylące warianty

Brak zadowolenia prowadzi do pomysłu biznesowego. Suknia dotyczy ślubu, nie zawodów łyżwiarskich, dlatego nagłówek o kostiumie sportowym zniekształca przyczynę.

  3. Sprawdź zapis i własny klucz

Porównaj literę z pełnym brzmieniem własnej odpowiedzi i dowodem. Samo pojawienie się podobnego słowa w źródle nie potwierdza całej opcji. Zachowano numer zadania, punktację i własne kryteria.

Przeczytaj cztery teksty A-D. Wykonaj zadania 1-7 zgodnie z poleceniami.

Tekst A
When planning a plane trip…
– Avoid direct flights. Book connecting flights instead.
– Book your flight at least three weeks in advance.
– Be flexible with the dates of your flight. Wednesdays are the best days to fly and Sundays are the worst.
– To get the cheapest tickets, book your flight on a Sunday. This is the day when most airlines announce their special offers.
This way, you’ll have more money in your pocket!

Tekst B
Walk more, wait less
Some years ago, Houston airport received a large number of complaints from passengers who had to wait for their suitcases in the arrivals terminal. The airport administration made a careful analysis. They found that passengers spent just one minute walking from the arrival gate to the baggage pick-up area, and then seven minutes on average waiting for their bags. The airport administration moved the arrival gate further away, so passengers now have to walk six minutes instead of one, before they can pick up their luggage. Complaints have dropped to nearly zero since then. It seems that people prefer walking to just standing and waiting.

Tekst C
You won’t believe what happened! Last Monday, on my return journey to New York, I had to spend almost 10 hours at Istanbul Airport. But I wasn’t unhappy. Instead of just sitting there and getting bored I bought some souvenirs, tried some local Turkish dishes and relaxed at one of the airport cafés.
And guess what! While exploring the airport and its attractions, I came across an art gallery with an exhibition of 20 amazing portraits. They were not painted but made from recycled rubbish such as leaflets, tickets and plastic bags thrown away by passengers at Istanbul Airport.

Tekst D
The First World War is over and Wally Shiers, an airplane mechanic, has promised his girlfriend, Helena, that he will return home and marry her. But fighter pilot Ross Smith asks Wally to join him to compete in a dangerous air race. A £10,000 prize has been offered for the first airmen to fly from England to Australia. Ross is a talented and brave pilot. Who could say “no” to his request? Wally writes to Helena to say he won’t be home for another year.
The drama of that year is excitingly told by Lainie Anderson right from the first page. She uses real diaries and letters to describe one of the most important chapters in aviation history.

Hi Alice,
I’m so happy that you are coming to Australia for your summer holiday. I’m looking forward to showing you round Sydney, my hometown.
If you want to save money on airline tickets, choose connecting flights instead of direct ones. I suggest going via Istanbul. The airport is truly amazing there. There is even —-4, where you can enjoy an exhibition of twenty fantastic portraits. The most unusual thing about the pictures is that the materials used to make them were collected at —-5.

Another useful tip is to buy your tickets online a few weeks before you fly. I read that it’s important not only what day of the week you actually fly, but also when you make the booking. To have a chance of getting the best price you should book your ticket on —-6.
Your journey will be a long one, so take a good book with you. I’ve recently read a wonderful historical novel. The main character, who worked during the war as —-7, decides to take part in an air race from Europe to Australia while his girlfriend waits for him at home. It’s a story full of romance and adventure. I’m sure you’ll love it!
I can’t wait to see you in Sydney!

Zadanie 5. (0-7)

Bye for now, Michael

  1. Odczytaj własny fragment i kontekst

Tekst C wprost wskazuje galerię sztuki na lotnisku w Stambule, z wystawą dwudziestu portretów z odpadów.

  2. Wyprowadź odpowiedź i odrzuć mylące warianty

Wstaw an art gallery: nazywa miejsce wystawy i mieści się w trzech słowach. Sam picture nie jest miejscem, a café to inna atrakcja. Klucz dopuszcza też m.in. gallery, art museum i pominięcie lub błędny przedimek.

  3. Sprawdź zapis i własny klucz

Zapisz jeden dopuszczony wariant, nie wszystkie alternatywy rozdzielone ukośnikami. W 5 i 11 obowiązuje limit trzech wyrazów, w 10 jednego. Przykłady i wyjątki oceniania sprawdzamy we własnym kluczu, nie na podstawie dowolnej parafrazy.

Nie zastępuj konkretnej galerii ogólnym place lub dłuższym opisem ponad limit.
